I've finally gotten to the point to where I've got my student loans paid off, and as a reward to myself I'm going to be buying an 03-04 Cobra in a few months.

I've been trolling around here for the past couple of months trying to a feel for what kind of exhaust I want. I've almost set myself on the Borla Stingers. My question is how big of a difference does an O/R H-pipe make in sound quality and loudness vs. a Catted H-Pipe. Obviously it's going to be louder, but am I going to be deafened by just cruising around or at highway speeds by going with the O/R pipe? I had a Trans AM in high school with straight pipes, and the thought of making a car that loud again disturbs me and I'm sure the wife wouldn't appreciate it.

This site has been very informative thus far. Thanks for your all your answers in advance.

buy a Hpipe with cats. yeah it will be louder w/o cats but the stingers will be plenty loud with cats. Also with off road pipes you get more inside fumes. And lastly you will lose back pressure and possible HP with.the off road pipe. The SC needs backpressure IMHO

if you are getting the car to use as a daily driver, get a catted pipe. As cobra4me said, with a o/r pipe you will get fumes in the car, it will be louder at cruising speeds, and it will not pass emissions testing. catted mid pipe will be loud when you get down on it, but a little less interior noise at cruise speeds.

Thanks for your replies.

The car is going to be a weekend driver primarily, but we take 3-4 hour trips on a monthly basis. That's why I was worried about highway cruising speeds and exhaust drone. With a catted H-pipe it's still going to get fairly loud when I get on it correct?

that would be correct

Why not go with a catted X instead of the H. Staright thru mufflers like SLP, Borlas, etc sound better with X pipes. Chambered mufflers such as flowmaster, Mac, Bassani, etc sound better with a H pipe. Granted you can mix them up if you want, just throwing out a suggestion.

bassani is straight through. At least mine was. But red04 is right a x would be better for a straight throught muffler, at least sound wise. Probably HP wise too.
