View Full Version : SLP or Not?

Greetings all of you wonderful Pony lovers. I've got a few ?s I'm sure somebody has some answers too. I'm ready to upgrade the exhaust on my 08 GT. I've been considering the SLP Loudmouths, but there's one thing that has me a little reluctant. I've heard that SLP is a gm product. This looks to be the case as well when you visit there website. The SLPs sound lovely from what I've heard on youtube, and I hear that even that is nothing compared to what they sound like in person(which I've not yet had the privilege of hearing), but I would feel a little funny about putting a gm product on my Ford. I also ride Honda motorcycles, and that would be like putting yoshimura(partnered w/ suzuki) exhaust on my 03 Blackbird. Since this ? has come up, I've taken a look @ SSS Terminators as well. They seem to sound just as good, if not the same, as the SLPs. They both have a similar sound that I'm looking for. Quality is also important as well. That is part of the reason why I'm a little hesitant about anything attached to gm. I was originally looking to go w/ Pypes o/r x-pipe and Violator axle-backs, but an installer(that works w/ mostly Mustangs and other fords) I talked to didn't have too positive opinion about Pypes products. He said if he didn't have the mandrel benders on hand in his shop, he could never get them on. He's also the guy that suggested the SLPs. I had heard of them before, but never really paid attention to them until that point. So, I was wondering who knows what the relationship between SLP and gm is.

P.S. One more thing. Does anyone know where I can find gt/cs seats and door panels or the inserts?

Welcome! I personally have the SSS Terminators, and can tell you it's one bada$$ system imo. First the sound is incredible. It's VERY LOUD (especially when combined with a mid pipe and long tubes) but has a nice deep tone as well. Secondly, the fitment and quality is among the very best. It's right up there with Borla, Bassani, etc. Lastly, the price is unbelievable. I think the axle backs are under $300. It's all 304 mirror polished stainless steel as well.

I'll let the others comment on SLP, as i have never had their exhaust before.

I've had SLP on three mustangs now...I won't go for anything else...not to say that other set ups don't sound good...

They started out manufacturing exhaust for GM exclusivly...so the Vette, Camaro, TransAm/Firebird were they big car sellers...when they got rid of the camaro and bird...they started to bring out systems for the Mustang...I actually had the first modular system of their line...

They are not actually GM at all...people just say that cause that's what they were building stuff for exlusively at first...just like MRT (Mustang Racing Technologies) were exlusive to Mustang untill they brought out the new camaro, now they are making exhaust for it as well...

bottom line, you won't be dissapointed with it...but at the same time...get whatever exhaust you think sounds best

So it is like a partnership thing. Thanks Ghost. I'm a little confused w/ your 1st post though. Was that a joke? Either way, I think the SLPs have one of the best sounds I've heard so far. The Terminators are appealing because they cost a little less, yet sound just as good. I appreciate the insight. That's good info.

I've got a question regarding the SSS Terminators. I've just found out about these as well, and the price point is very attractive, but on a scale of 1-10 compared to GT stock. How much louder is it? I like the sound, but don't want obnoxious loud like those kids in '87 civics with all pipe and no power.

I'm also considering the SLP Powerflo's, nice sound. Price is a little higher.

Thanks..

The Terminators are probably the loudest (next to SLP LM 1's) muffler you can get. It's significantly louder than stock, but with a very nice deep non raspy tone. They sound very muscular IMO...nothing like the 87 Civic you're describing. On a scale 1-10 i'd say maybe a 9 in terms of loudness compared to stock, but it's a good loud lol.

If you have the stock headers, and mid pipe, it won't be overbearing at all. I think you'd be very pleased with it.

Thanks Mrtstang, appreciate the info. Still, what would you say is comparable in 'loudness', the Borla Stingers?

I think for the price, I may just take a chance and get them. I'm only going for the axle-backs for now, will get a mid-pipe later on.

I think I really need to find someone in my area with them to get a good idea.

Stingers and the SSS Adrenalines are very similar in tone, and loudness. The Terminators are a noticable louder yet, but still with a similar tone.

To give you more of an idea, my Terminators, with a catted h, is a little louder than my buddy's 04 gt with a o/r x and Stingers. So, when comparing apples to apples you can see they're quite a bit louder.

Terminators will be quite a bit louder that stingers and sound different IMO...another option is 1 chambers...sound very agressive and are also very high on the loudness scale

Thanks Ghost Rider. You go to DaSilva?

Looks like I'm back over to the SLP Powerflo's. I really just have to go out and hear some in person.

Hey man...didn't realize you were an Ontarioian LOL...yeah I've been known to turn up at DaSilva's on occasion lol

you can come over and hear my exhaust in person if you want...I'm running stock headers, stock mid and just slp catback on my mach...it doesn't go out in the winter but it can sure be started up...had it running last weekend...

I can start the black mach up for you too...it has SLP but with Hooker Long Tube Headers and a Custom hi-flow H...that will give you an idea for comparing the two of them...anyways...just a thought :)

Where about's are you?

In Brampton. I have it parked as well, took her out on Saturday to get some exercise, but I'm biting at the bit for spring to come.

Looking to go to DaSilva's in the spring, I spoke to Joe about the Eibach Prokit. So I'm looking to do that and the axle-backs this year. Just have to decide. I'm now looking at the SSS Adrenalines. Might be want I'm looking for.

I love my SLP LM. I have them mated with stock manifolds and prochamber with hi-flow cats. Any set-up with prochambers and hi-flows sound awesome. I previously had magnapacks with the prochambers. I loved that set-up as well.

I love my set-up: SLP LM with prochamber and hi-flow cats. Of course any axleback will sound good with the prochamber.

No problem gmantheman. I think I'll get the Adrenalines. Pretty excited, going to get them in the spring and put them on myself. I think the next step would be a catted X-pipe. That will have to wait until I decide if I'm going with new headers, and who's?? Heard Kooks are good.
