View Full Version : Anyone considering buying the 2011 Mustang GT with the 5.0?
Haven't heard a lot of discussion about the 2011 Mustang GT with the new 400hp 5.0 V8 on here. Anyone lusting after one yet? Are we all content with our Mustangs or are we just poor? :jest:
And how about that 305hp 2011 Mustang V6? It's gonna make more power than my '06 GT had stock! Slap some gears on that thing and it's gonna fly!
This is the new Golden Age of muscle cars!

I don't know much about it, but i imagine it will have a price tag to match that new motor.
To be honest, for the price i paid for mine, i could it turn into my dream ride, and probably still be less than the 2011.
You watch...that new V-6 might make the same advertised numbers as the GT, but it won't be as fast i'll bet. Torque, power under the curve, and all that.

Off the showroom floor, it probably won't. But with some steep gears it will be just as fast in a straight line and probably faster around corners. Remember, it's lighter than a GT by about 100-200 lbs.

It'll be interesting for sure. Do you know projected prices on the gt and V-6?

300hp V6 FTL...90 percent of the reason I wanted a v8 was for the sound...so even if a 6er can beat me...oh well, my car still going to sound better...
IMO ofcourse :)
I heard the 6er yesterday (in a video) guess it will be a quicker sixer but still...
who else is with me on this? lol anyone???...anyone at all??? lol
I'm guessing the base price of the V6 will be around $23-24K. Base for the GT maybe around $26-28K.
I got my mid-level GT in 2006 for around $24K. Zero interest, oh yeah!

LOL. The V8 will ALWAYS sound better to me. But that doesn't mean a well tuned V6 can't sound good in it's own right. The 350Z and G35 Coupes sound damn good to me.
I really believe this new V6 Mustang is going to light the Mustang world on fire. Lower weight, better handling, lower insurance cost, better fuel economy, great flowing 4 valve heads, and the real-world potential to make 400+ bhp with a blower (you know they gotta be working on these already) and they are gonna be a force to be reckoned with.

True but I think the sound of the nissan/infinity suits that car...I don't think it would sound to good hearing that sound on a mustang?

We shall see (hear) I suppose.
On another note (no pun intended), I've always been partial to the exhaust note of the modular 4V engines. They just have such an exotic sound unlike anything I've ever heard. There's a '07 GT500 here in Houston with a full Bassani exhaust (longtubes, O/R X, and 3" cat-back) that sounds sooooo freaking fantastic it's hard to put into words. It's literally the BEST sounding car I've ever heard and that includes all the exotics that gather at the Houston Coffee and Cars shows.
I can't wait to hear the new 5.0 with it's 4 valve heads sing. :burnout:

Wow! My 04 GT listed for $23,995 brand new back then. I got mine for $15,000 with less than 10,000 miles.

So the 5.4L in the Shelby's are 4V? I actually didn't know that...I have heard that the 4v sound more exotic...can't say I hear a huge difference on mine compared the the GT but the valve covers sure are different LMAO...the are facking huge compared to my old car
I can hear a busy mechanical sound on 4V modular engine exhaust sound that is not present in the 2V or 3V cars. I guess it's all that valvetrain working in the heads. You can really hear it with chambered mufflers like Flows.

I wasn't aware they were using 4V heads on the Coyote engine. I thought the 3V heads were on it. I mean 4V heads rock but the 3V has proven to pretty much hang right with the 4V in 4.6 applications, and make better low end torque in the process. Interesting.
Yes, the Coyote engine will have 4V heads & variable cams (both intake and exhaust) and probably a 7000rpm redline. It's gonna be a high winder but with twin variable cams it should also have good low end torque. I just wish they had also included the direct injection so they could bump up the compression to arround 11:1. That would have made the exhaust sound real mean and not to mention about 20-30 more hp!
Speak of the devil! Autoblog just posted this right now!
412 HP for 2011 Mustang 5.0L
(http://www.autoblog.com/2009/12/17/2011-ford-mustang-gt-to-offer-412-horsepower-5-0l-v8/)
There's another Autoblog post today regarding the 2011 GT. They mention that peak power will occur at a lofty 6500 rpm so a 7000 rpm redline seems likely. Also, torque comes in at 390 ft-lbs....not bad. I expected the torque to be lower than the hp since this will be such a high revving engine. Fuel economy is expected to be around 25 mpg, again, not bad considering the performance.
