New to the forums. I'm from charlotte, nc and me and my husband just recently purchased a 99 cobra vert were looking to add some mmph. We have been talking about supercharging it and was wondering what you guys and gals think about different superchargers available.

Right now its for most part stock, has bassani x pipe, and flowmasters, with a cai. What other parts are we looking at?

welcome to the site. Its a great place with lots of great people and vast amounts of information!

Theres TONS of different options when it comes to superchargers. Vortech and procharger both make great setups for the modular cobras.

Theres few things you need to pick up usually when supercharging one, you'll need some larger injectors, larger fuel pump, and bigger maf just for starters. You could pick up an 03-04 cobra maf for pretty darn cheap off of svtperformance.com <another great site for cobra owners> and they are typically good to about 430 rwhp. Mine pegged at 427 rwhp on a mustang dyno.

If you plan on running about 8lbs or so of boost the 03 cobra maf should be plenty enough. You can pick up some 42lb injectors for around 200 or so bucks, or you can go ahead and upgrade to some siemens deka 60# injectors. Lightning force performance usually has the best prices on the injectors at around 380 bucks for everything. They are a little more expensive but if you plan to upgrade to more boost later down the road then you will have plenty of room.

The most important thing to consider when upgrading to a supercharger is finding a good tuner near you who can reflash the pcm and dial in all the important things on your car. Not just the wide open throttle tuning, but all the little things, like idle, drivability related things such as part throttle fuel trims, hot and cold starts, to even checking how the car reacts when the ac is cut on.

I dont want to overload you with to much info at once so i'll shoot ya a pm with some info on different things and recommendation about good tuner near you, as well as some shops that can do any work you need.

First question is, what do you plan on doing with it? Are you going for fun on the street or drag strip? Also do you want the torque down low or Higher hp at the top? Now if I wanted something fun for the street, I'd look into a Kennebell supercharger. Makes your motor feel like a big block with all the torque down low. Plus the whine sounds awesome. The only problem is, they tend to be pricey, but you do get what you pay for. A centrifigal (ie. vortech, procharger, paxton) supercharger is also a good. You wont have as much low end torque as a kennebell, but you'll have an awesome topend. Centrifigal superchargers make boost relative to the rpm. So around 2,000 you might not see any boost, but up around 5,000, you'll see 9psi. Another thing to look at if your not getting a SC right away is gears. Those wont give you any hp, but you'll definitely feel it. For a 4valve, at least get 4.10 gears. If you decide to stay N/A step up to 4.30s. blah blah blah....just rambling lol. Let us know what you want to do with your car, then we will help you figure out what you need.

Yeah, we had looked at some kenne bell kits but man are they expensive. They seem to be almost 2x as much as vortech kit. Even though I would like one i just cant see spending that much for one. My husband also likes the whistle of a procharger, but i think it would get annoying after a little while personally.

Thanks for the info blueblazes I replied to your pm and will tell my husband about the stuff you recommended.

For right now I think we want to have a car that is all around reliable and can cruise on the weekends and if someone wants to pick a race along the way we can have a little fun:thumbsup:. We dont want an all out racecar but would like to goto track once in a while and see what she'll do.

I shot you a pm back.

Yeah you can never go wrong with gears. Especially if you decide to go with a procharger or vortech <both great head units> as the gears will help the motor rev faster and get the car into the sweet spot for the blowers faster. Swervo made some good recommendations on the gears. 410 supercharged, or 4:30 naturally aspirated. If you are a little more concerned about gas mileage then stepdown to say a 3:73.

Another thing i might recommend is picking up some full length subframe connectors, such as from maximum motorsports. Great investment for the money. Just make sure when you get them put on its done at a shop who has a drive on lift so they are installed properly. You might also look into some weight reduction stuff, such as tubular k-member/a-arm setup. Weight reduction is as good as hp when it comes to racing. A good k-member will help take off upto 50-70lbs off the front end of the car.

If you have any other questions shoot me a pm

oh btw I meant to mention local dyno shop I told you about is having a dyno day end of this month your more than welcome to come up and hang out. You can see what hes all about, also good opportunity to get a baseline pull on your car so you can gauge the before and after results of your modifications. Its a loaded dyno, so its not gonna be an ego booster for #'s but it will be an ego bruiser hehe. Alot of your more well known shops are now switching over to loaded dynos for more accurate tuning, where as this guy has been promoting the advantages of them all along. This dyno is an eddy current dyno similar the ones that ford racing uses to test their engines on!! In their own words "these dynos are desirable for engine development due to very good rpm control"

The guy from the automotive shop will be there as well and you and your husband can sit down and talk with all of them about your future plans and what all you have in mind for it and where you want to go!

cool did dan finally get his eddy current dyno installed? Good to see more tuners learning the great advantages of eddy current dynos.

we decided to go with vortech with aftercooler and have started gathering some parts. Thanks to everyone for all the information, my husband called around to a few places and gathered alot of information. Now we just gotta decide if we want to install it ourselves or have someone do it and decide on a tuner.

as far as s/c's go i love the idea of a procharger, keep the car civil at low rpms and low speeds, but gives you that 400+ hp when you get up into the rpms and need to pass someone on the interstate (haha...)

edit: not to mention ALL prochargers are intercooled unlike vortechs.
