View Full Version : Will an X pipe from a 98 Cobra fit onto an 03 GT?

My friend currently has a Pypes catted x-pipe on his 98 cobra and is replacing it soon. Instead of me paying 3 times as much for a new one, I'd like to buy his other one and put it on my 03 GT. Will the mid pipe fit properly, or is there something that would keep it from fitting?

I'm not 100% sure, but most likely it will not fit without some modifications. Each of those cars has a different transmission support bracket which the X-pipe must clear to fit correctly. I think that may be the biggest obstacle.

You may want to call Pypes about your fitment question, but to me it seems that there must be some significant differences between these model years for them to make seperate X-pipe for each.

alright thanks, I figured that there was some difference between the two but was not sure if it was in shape, or if the holes for the sensors were in different spots or something. i guess I'll just have to see if it does fit before I actually buy it

alright, so I contacted Pypes and they said that the O2 sensors were in different places...I have been told before that it is not too hard to weld over sensor holes and drill new ones...has anyone ever done this before?

or instead of drilling new holes...would MIL eliminators be a better option to that, so that the check engine light wouldn't go on but if they tested the emissions, it would still pass? I want to do the cheapest and easiest solution to try and make this mid pipe fit onto my car and still pass emissions.

I would try to get some O2 harness extensions or have a programmer or chip turn the rear O2s off. Is it the rear sensors that you are talking about?

yea I think it is the rear O2 sensors...my friend already had to weld over the sensor holes that came with the pipe and made his own, but still had to use MIL eliminators so the check engine light didn't go on...I'm probably going to have to get the extensions and MIL's anyway, so hopefully with those there wont be any problems

If money isn't a issue, I would go ahead and get the programmer with O2 extensions instead of the mil eliminators. Simply because every mustang owner will eventually want to add more power:groovy: and you will need that certain programmer to make major/minor adjustments to your PCM including turning the rear O2 sensors off for off road use. I use my SCT tuner frequently. Mainly when I change from my 18" rims/tires to my 17" set to make sure the rotations per mile are correct so that my speedo isn't off. Programmers will increase HP/TQ and come in handy when you begin to dyno your car frequently after upgrades and it will save up to 3 tunes depending on the programmer. Data logging is a usefull feature as well.

well, I've done that before with my ac delco (http://www.jcwhitney.com/ac-delco/b2185j1s9.jcwx) drills, though I was not that successful, I end up paying a mechanic for it. hehe. Maybe it is just about my hands being all shaky and all.
