Please help...I have a 2008 GT. I got it for graduation last year b/c im spoiled haha. I love it. I do not know much AT ALL about cars (more of a bike guy). But when he got it for me, my dad had a few things done to it. It has a short shift kit and Magnaflow exhaust...
I have been reading online about different exhausts and listening to sound clips. I am not satisfied with the exhaust i have now. The pipes that stick out are clearly magnaflows considering it says it across the tops of them but they dont sound ANYTHING like the ones i hear in sound clips (i dont know if its becuase i only have the mufflers or what becuase i dont know what he had put on it) I have about $1000 to play with and i want my car to rumble!! Im not afraid of it being too loud, and with what i have now i can sneak up on people lol. I thought i had a full cat-back system but that cant be right after listening to sound clips. Please help with advice or info!!! Thank you
Welcome to the board Clutch9, glad to have you here. The Magnaflow kit is great quality but it's not much louder than stock as you have noticed. If you want a very loud system, your best route will be to go with a race style axle-back such as the MagnaPack, Borla Stinger, Boom Tube, Bassani Street Race, or SLP Loudmouth to name a few. There are other great kits out there, but these are the most popular. If you want to go all out, you can get longtube headers, mid-pipe and cat-back system.
Let us know if you have any other questions.

Thank you for responding...Well my only thing is that if any way possible i would like to achieve a louder sound and all while not completely getting rid of what i got, that just seems like a waste cause i dont know where i could sell it. So i would googling it and noticed a few stangs that had magnaflow mufflers with an off road x-pipe or h-pipe and they sounded good. Is this true or do you think they had other things. I found a upn off road x-pipe for cheap. If i put that on with my mag mufflers do you think i would get a sound im looking for...and then i was gunna use the money i would save there on a chip and maybe cold air intake to try to gain the sound and more hp what you think?
Going with an off-road mid-pipe will definitely make your car louder, but it will also make it illegal to drive on the road and it will not pass emissions testing (if your state requires it). Also, it will cause your Check Engine Light (CEL) to stay on unless you use MILs or a tuner to turn the CEL off. Just some things to keep in mind.

Oh wow you are very helpful haha. Thanks again...yeah im not worried about it being legal and our state doesn't have emmissions testing so that won't be a problem. So i've decided to go with an off-road X. And im not sure what MIL's are. If i bought something like the chip thats in the Ninosport.com add at the bottom of the page would that take care of that problem? And any other suggestions for my best bet on perfermance gain while maintaining budget?? Thanks again
MILs are electronic modules that connect to the oxygen sensors on the off-road pipe. They basically send a signal to the car's computer telling it that catalytic converters are present, even though they are not. That prevents the CEL light from coming on. MILs are becoming hard to find because the EPA is cracking down on companies that make and sell them (we stopped selling them about a year ago). Here's a pic to help explain MILs.

Using a tuner such as SCT or Diablosport to turn off the CEL is a good choice because not only will you take care of the CEL but most tuners now come with programs to increase the performance of your Mustang by about 10-15 horsepower. Plus, you can also use the tuner to do diagnostic checks on your car in the case it's malfunctioning and the CEL comes on. I guess I have to clear it up when I say the CEL comes on because I just told you that the tuner will turn the CEL off. What I mean is the tuner has a specific setting that will prevent the CEL from coming on due to the removal of the cats, but this does not prevent the CEL from coming on in case some other part of the car malfunctions. This is good because you don't want to permanently disable the CEL in all cases. Yes, the tuner is much more expensive than MILs but it also gives you many more benefits.
If you want more info on other performance mods that are not exhaust related, create a new thread in the S197 Mustang Talk (http://www.mustangexhaust.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=72) forum regarding popular performance mods and I'm sure you'll get some suggestions there. Just trying to keep this thread all about exhaust.

When it comes to just an off road mid pipe does the brand really make a difference? Will i be dissappointed if i were to go with the chaepest one i could find? The UPN Off Road X- Its about a hundred dollars off of Ebay
Do you mean UPR? They're a well known maker of X-pipes, but I don't have first hand knowledge of their products. Maybe someone can chime in with their experience?
