My power steering pump on the fox whines like hell. I have heard that they all do this. Has anybody replaced theirs, where do you get the pump, how much and did it stop the whining. I also heard alot of guys take it off and run no power steering. Any input would be great.

I just replaced mine about a month ago. My was whining and I thought it was just the pump, but it turned out that the pump and the rack were bad. Both were the original factory parts.
Replacing the pump itself is really not hard, just make sure you get a good high pressure hose. I got the pump and a Duralast hose from Autozone. The next morning I try to go to work and the hose was shooting fluid right through the fitting like a water hose.
My stang is my DD so I had to let a shop do the rack. If I had another ride I would have tackled the rack myself, needless to say, the shop charged me an arm and a leg.
I thought about doing the manual conversion from Flaming River, but I've never driven a stang that had one so I had no idea how it would be.
Hope this helps. I f you have any more Q's, let me know.

I'm new here, but I'll second to stay away from the autozone hose. Mine lasted a week, and started leaking at the rack fitting. Ended up stealing motorcraft line from my 83 thats down, and works perfect :D
I also deleted the pump, and looped the lines for awhile when I was taking it to the track all the time. Not nad to steer on skinnies, but on 17x8 wheels, it took a little effort.
If you have any local junkyards, you might be able to find an early mustang/fairmont with a manual rack, and matching steering shaft.

I know i have been late for this but i have the same thing on my car.I am actually planning to install a POWER gear steering box on my auto however I have been told that the pump for this year will work, but I thought possibly a pump from a gear box would not work. I have been searching for steering parts (http://www.partstrain.com/ShopbyCategory/Steering) and would be glad to know the one that best fit on 96 mustang. Anybody has the same thing? Ideas about this issue?
