Ok, here is the story.. Havent driven a a 5 speed, in almost 10 years, i was 16 when i had my last 5 speed, needless to say, i didnt know how to drive then... and ended up blowing the clutch on a car with 125k miles on it... Now at almost 30... i still cant drive properly.. (sure i can drive, but i cant DRIVE "fast, efficiently, and with as little damage to the clutch as possible)

Always wanted the stang, but couldent afford it at 16, so i bought a 93 probe (chuckles) loved that car..

sooo, i am watching videos and i am getting "lessons, tips" from a mercedes tech in the upcoming days, but i am going to ask several questions here, as cross reference. Ive been watching several online videos with references to double clutching, toeheel shifting, and rev matching techniques.

1. your coming into a slow stop from 40mph in 4th, you want to take a 90degree turn, so basically you want it in 2nd before or during the turn for maximum acceleration out of the turn... you can
A. heel-toe downshift.. which i am still learning
b. Brake, and switch into the lower gear, before or during the corner, while trying not to shift to soon
c. Downshift while rev matching
d. Downshifting and timing the revs manually starting 1/4 a mile back, so you dont have to blip the throttle

Generally i do D... but supposedly, that wears the hell out of the clutch... and its not very efficient... since ive been watching videos... ive been working on my rev matching, which isnt too hard... But i was told not to use the clutch "AT ALL" to slow down.. How about, Rev Matching then slowing down by easing off the accelerator, is that okay??? its faster then manually timing it, but not quite as efficient as heel-toe downshifts...

Double clutching... The purpose of it? is it neccessary? I ussually Just Clutch, pull out of 4th, push to 3rd, and rev match, without double clutching.... is this bad? I just dont understand the purpose of lifting off the clutch in neutral when you can just down shift with one clutch.. any explanations would be appreciated...

As far as forward movement.. i can start uphill without the handbrake, 1st - 5th, with very little jerking during the shifts, unless of course i am gunning it, and shifting at 5300rpm then it can get a little choppy, cause i need to learn to clutch faster, without lifting my foot off the clutch to soon.. or too fast (therefore im not even going to try powershifting yet, cause i am still too slow on the clutch)

anyways.. thanks for any help you can give,

Double clutching is for truckers bro...don't even go there...it's very slow and meant to drop the RPM's down while shifting...it helps the transmission of the rig...I know the reference "double clutching" is used in the first Fast and Furious...don't even pay attention to it, a double clutch is for slow shifting not "racing"

Here's of vid of me driving around when I had my 04 GT, you can hear the rev matching and stuff...doesn't really show you how to do anything lol but you might still enjoy it

I wouldn't power shift with the stock shifter...you'll never get it in, in time...you'll end up bouncing the rev limiter far too long...

Yea ghost is right double clutching is for truckers. I always rev match when I down shift.

Do you bother rev matching.. when your already going slow enough and it would only make a 200-500rpm difference?

How about, when the Car bucks in first gear? Occasionally ill be in first and the car decides to buck like crazy, ussually at this point i just clutch in, and pop it into second.. but what causes this.. what am i doing , or not doing, to make this happen?

What casues that is just that the gearing is really not meant to be going at a slow speed like that. Just put it in second like you said. When I first started driving my car did the same thing. Just takes some time and you will get to the point where it dosnt do it.

its actually quite humorous when it happens.. the bucking makes your foot hit the clutch more. and that just makes the bucking worse but ussually by the second buck i clutch in now <chuckles>

makes you look like a real professional , in the middle of an intersection

yep, we've all been there learning how to drive a manual. What is even better is when you go to take off real fast in a crowd of people, with loud exhaust, and miss a gear haha...make a new shifter one of your first mods

A. heel-toe downshift.. which i am still learning

Is that really necessary. I been driving my 5 speed for like 4 years and never done that ONCE

you can brake in between your rev matches...no need to heal toe...I have never done that in my life and I rev match on every downshift...:dunno:

I just have big enough feet to be able to touch both at the same time holding my foot straight lol..... Don't worry about it though, alls it takes is time don't rush yourself. The best advice my dad ever gave me was to not think about it and just do it, because the more I think about what I'm doing the more I make mistakes lol....
