Hey Guys-
Great website. Exactly what I've been looking for
I want to upgrade my stock 02 2v, but I'm not looking for radical sound. I leave for work at 5am and I don't want to wake up my family and everyone on the block.

I've looked/listened to the Magnaflow cat-back on Nino's page and it looks like what I'm after.

Anyone have any other ideas for a mild upgrade that might also work? I actually like the Stock Sound quality but it is a bit too weak.

I don't mind a DYNAMIC system, loud at WOT is fine as long as it's subtle below 2Krpm.

Thanks Guys-

Really any cat-back system will do what you want for your car, its when you change the mid-pipe and headers, or both, that you really start noticing a huge difference in loudness.. Magnaflow sounds killer on 2v 4.6's and so does bassani and mac IMO..

Magnaflow catback is what you want...or if you want just a touch more...welded in 40 series flows or Mac flow paths...

I absolutely agree with ghost rider. I would suggest keeping the stock H pipe and getting the regular Magnaflow Catback. Magnapacks are louder. Really any catback will do, just stay away from LM1's, Magnapacks. When I bought my GT it had welded in 40's flows on it. It was deep and quiet. But you could hear it. But it wouldnt wake up the neighbors unless they are light sleepers and you mashed it on the way to work.

And after you get the system installed and you want it a bit louder, than just try a catted H or X. Whichever you prefer. I'm keeping my O/R h and getting bassani. I'm sure it will wake the neighbors haha.

I have the Steeda catback and while pricey, it sounds like what you are looking for. I too wanted something to give the car a little more growl without making so I could not take my wife and kids on trips.

It is noticeable at start up and idle, mellow at cruise and sounds mean at WOT. It has a nice deep rumble on the highway at 65-70 and 2000rpm. You are well aware there is an exhaust system on it, but you are not droning to death. I had been tossing around the idea of changing the mid-pipe, but decided for now, that it is plenty loud for me.

Good luck and let me know if there is anything else you need.

Another one you might want to consider are Flowmaster Delta 50's. My buddy has them on his ride, and they're pretty mild, but have a nice tone.

As already stated by some your best bet is magnaflow or bassani with the stock midpipe

Thanks for the input guys-
I just happened to check back on this post this morning!
(OP Date: 2-19-09!)

I am leaning towards the Magnaflows. I've also decided on installing a KB2.1 blower in March (also quiet for a SC)..
This has got me reconsidering the exhaust side of things and put a little more emphasis on flow and performace.
I'm wondering now what the Gains/Loudness are for both Catted and non-Catted aftermarket midpipes?
I see Magnaflow also makes a Catted-X, this brings that CAT count down from 6 to only 2- Would something like that provide enough noticable flow without getting crazy loud?
Also, I'm wondering where the MAC Pro-chamber fits in (cool design) is it louder/Quieter than Catted- Non- Catted H pipes, if I kept the Chambered Magnaflow Cat-Back? :dunno:

Thanks for the help guys-

A good catted mid pipe will definantly add a few hp. The stocker is a restriction for sure. It will be significantly louder than stock, but with the Magnaflow cat back it won't be overbearing in the least. It will have a very nice and deep tone that will be very managable.

The Pro Chamber will probably be somewhere between a o/r and catted mid pipe in terms of loudness. It has no hi flow cats, but the box or chamber itself will act like a set of cats or another muffler so to speak.

I could be wrong, but i thought the Magnaflow cat back was a straight through style muffler... not chambered.

A good quality catted pipe will give you plenty of flow but I will admit the regular magnaflows do sound pretty badass with an O/R X pipe...had that for a little while...

As far as the cats, you only have 4...two cats and two pre-cats...not sure who told you 6 but either way the stock pipe is pretty restrictive none the less

The PC is pretty quiet...even with the O/R version...you can search around and probably still fine the catted version of the PC aswell cause they used to make one...although, it's not really any louder than stock, however it does flow better

Yep, they are straight thru's but they do have a chambered sound to them kinda...they are just packed to the gills with acoustical fiber lol
