I owned a 1989 LX 5.0 years ago (my first Mustang) and I remember back then someone telling me that up to certain year (I think 1990) Ford actually put forged pistons in the 5.0 engine. Can anyone verify or dispel this?

Hey fellas, long time no... post, lol.

Anyway, yeah, my Mustang performance book says they went from the forged piston to a cast one in 93 because it helped cut cost.

Some late model 92s had the hypereutic pistons as well. Also, the 4bbl 85s had forged. Anything from 86 to those late 92s used forged. The connecting rods were the weak link.
