Walther P22 fairly cheep easy to use easy to clean even easier to put a silencer on and extremely accurate. Cost is roughly about $400 depending on where you go and what model you get.

i highly recommend a smith and wesson MandP (military and police) i comes in 9mm 40 cal and 45 cal iv fired all and own the 9mm version great gun never missfires go it with the case and 5 clips and a bunch of ammo for like 650 bucks and thats in canada so it should be cheaper there

well for stickly target/range gun its a good gun but more of a carry gun which you cant do and dont have to worry about in IL thanks to obama and his cronies. For me it has to be multipurpose and i do like the M&P fantastic gun. My mom has one. But for a starter and range pistol Walther P22 you cant go wrong about $350 to $400 depending on where you go plus its a .22 so ammo is like $10 per 500 rds. I kinda wish i had one.

its not just obama. IL gun laws have never had a carry permit. i was thinking more along the lines of a Colt .38 Super

.38 super eh? gonna go do defensive pistol competitions... .38 super is some hard ammo to find. but if thats what you want then there are a number of 1911s out there that are good. Tauars has a 1911 its about $500 or so I own one its a good shooter but its only in .45 acp. Rock Island Armory has a 1911 in .38 super but i think that High Standard would be a better choice. still reasonable price and they shoot good.

i think .38 super is regularly available in my area and for a box of bullets is fairly cheap at like $17, but that might have jsut been .38s well at least compared to dads .357 bullets

well .38s are .38s.... .38 super is a semiautomatic pistol round. its like the difference between .357 magnum and .357 sig.. used mostly for competition shooting. IDPA etc...

with a .38 super you can only use those rounds nothing else... its just like with a .357 SIG you can only use those rounds. if you want just something cheep and fun to shoot you cant go wrong with a Walther P22. Almost everyone i know that has one absolutely loves it. I wish i had one but honestly im buying for carry and self defense so what ever i buy is going to pack a punch.
