Hey ya'll! I'm anxiously awaiting the delivery of my 09 GT Convertible and I'm using this stressful time to research exhaust kits and figure out what I want. I'm hoping I can get some help on here. I've listened to the clips and gotta say the sound of the Bassani clip sent shivers down my spine. If that clip is any where close to true life sound....I have found my exhaust. Now...it lists that the stang in the first clip has Bassani Axle Back and catted X-pipe. I've priced them and they are doable in time but I wondered...what benefit does changing the stock H to the X-pipe give me? Will it's presence effect the sound or is it mostly a power gain? I'm still learning as this is my first exhaust change out so please...don't make fun of the noob...help the noob! I'm looking for a deeper rumble.....not excruciatingly loud but loud enough to make people turn around to see what the heck that was going by. I'm all about gaining horsepower but my main concern right now is making my GT sound like a GT. Also....I don't have the ability or the resources to do the install myself...as much as I'd like to. What does a typical install job run? I really appreciate any help ya'll can give me!

First, welcome to the forums. Second, congrats on getting a new Mustang! The waiting is the hardest part as Mr. Petty likes to say.

The benefits of changing to the Bassani X-pipe are many. First, if you get the top-shelf SS version instead of the BX version, you'll be getting metal matrix converters which outflow just about all other converters on the market. This has a great effect on horsepower, plus their sturdy construction allows them to take more abuse than traditional ceramic converters so they will last longer. The X-shaped crossover section also helps the car make more power in the upper rpm level versus an H-pipe so you will make more peak power at the possible expense of a little loss of low end torque. As for the axle-back, the Bassani mufflers sound incredible. Definitely one of my favorites. I wouldn't expect too much power gains from just the mufflers - that is unless you install a blower or nitrous, then you will see significant gains. Overall, I would expect to see gains of 10-12 hp with both X-pipe and Axle-back installed. Now, Bassani also makes some killer longtube headers and if you throw those into the mix you can easily pick 20-25 hp overall.

Hope this helps and do upload a sound clip once you get your Mustang outfitted with exhaust!

Thank you! I appreciate the response and advice. I stopped by Thunder Racing in Baton Rouge on my way home from work today and discussed my plans with them. They seemed concerned that I wouldn't like the bassani and recommended magnaflow because it was more quiet until ya get on it. Even after I told them I didn't want it to be as quiet as the stock exhaust. Only thing I could figure is because I'm a chick I must not know what I want so they're gonna tell me. :dunno:

The magnaflow is just slightly louder than stock and I think it sounds good. I had regular magnaflow on my 04 Cobra. Now on the 08 I had the Bassani with my stock xpipe and liked it with exception for the drone. And the fitment on the gt500 was not that great. Check out the Ford Racing exhaust that Ninosport has on sale right now IMO that would be a good choice and of course you cannot go wrong with Magnaflow.

See that's the thing....I want it to be more than slightly louder than stock. I don't want my ears to bleed but I want to hear it. Stock GTs seem sooooo quiet. If I don't notice it when it drives by...its too quiet.

You want to get noticed?

Just go for the SLPs! They won't be extremely loud if you are keeping the stock h-pipe anyway.

Bassani sounds great. I'm not espically familiar with the newer GTs, but when i swapped my stock H pipe to a Catted Magnaflow X, i could notice a definate sound change and the car definatly pulls a little harder. My stock H pipe had four cats and 2 and 1/4 inch pipe, and my after market X had 2 high flow cats and 2 and 1/2 inch pipe.

The Bassani mufflers will sound good. The X pipe will make it louder, due to the bigger pipe and removal to at least 2 cats (all four if you go with an O/R x). If you want to maintain a deep sound, then look into H pipes.

The headers will wake the car up. The sound will be louder and there will be a noticable TQ and HP gain throughout the band.

If you can afford it, do it all the right way. If not, the mufflers will provide you with a nice sound change, but you will have to look into a midpipe and headers to add power.
