My exhaust hung very low on my 03 cobra. The mufflers were probably 2 1/2 inches from the ground. It was like this when I had the stock h and then when I went to an x. It hooked up perfect when switching from the h to the x so I just thought that was the way it was supposed to be. Someone told me they had the same problem so they loosened up everything and used a transmission jack and a 2x4 to push everything up and then tightened everything up and gained a couple of inches. I did that today and gained over 1 1/2 inches of clearance. Here is the part where I get to my question. When I first started the car it kind of bogged and sputtered like it was getting use to something new even though I didn't add anything new. Also, my exhaust sounds very different now. How is this possible? Has this happened to anyone else? I didn't appear to have an exhaust leak before or after I raised the exhaust and x pipe. The car also is def louder. I noticed before when everything was clamped up that it was at weird angles but there were not any gaps of holes. Was it possible that before I was not getting the full effect of the new x because I was also surprised that when it was originally put on that it wasn't that much louder than the stock h. I'm also wondering that if it wasn't hooked up properly before should it have been louder then or is it to be louder now that it is hooked up properly? The car seems to be running fine but I'm just hoping there isn't a problem. Sorry for the long post. Thanks for any help.

wel have you lost any back pressure? i iremember on my old GT i lost a few bolts bw the prochamber and the exhaust manifold. the car was LOUD and crackled a lot. but when i idrove it i list so much backk pressure my car was a dog. i would get underneath there if you can and see if you have everything bolted up ok, but if your car wasnt hooked up properly im gonna assume that the volume would have been higher

this is kind of a tough one. There really should not have been that much of a difference. One thing you might want to check is your O2 sensor wires and connections. Maybe when you were rearranging everything you pulled a connection loose or crimped a wire??

im not saying this is your problem, but its a possibility, and worth checking.

my exhaust on my GT, even after i pushed everything up is still only 3 inches from the ground at its lowest point.

another thing you might want to try if you're not sure if you have an exhaust leak or not, is reseal the connecting parts. Its likely that when you were sliding things around and adjusting, that a gasket slipped out of place or something of that nature.

you can use high temp (orange) sealant/silicone/gasket on your exhaust, and it would garenttee a air tight seal, and its only like $8

I'd check everything one more time. Make sure there are no leaks and that none of the O2 sensors are damaged or loose. If everything checks out ok, drive it normally. If there's a problem, usually the check engine light will turn on to warn you.

That is what I thought. No CEL though.
