View Full Version : Minimum resonance?

Hi everyone,
I'm new to the forum and have a question about which muffler produces the least amount of resonance.
I have an 02 GT convertible with stock exh manifolds, SLP catted X and SLP LMII's. It sounds great but produces an annoying resonance around 2000 RPM. I'm pretty sure since the SLP system is modular that I can get another type/brand of muffler on it.
I'm sure you guys have experience in this department.
Any thoughts? Which muffler would get rid of the resonance or at least greatly reduce it?:dunno:

actually the LM I as some people like to call them...talking about the original shot gun rezzy's don't have any interior res. However, it's going to be a much louder exhaust...the only other thing I can suggest is the Power flow muffs for ease of use...just cause they are made to fit in the SLP system, this should knock down the res. some, however it's going to also make your system quiter just cause of the kind of muff it is...

hope this helps...

on a side note if your thinking of switching muff brands altogether you might want to stay away from flows 40 series and mac flow paths...they will most likely give you more interior noise

Thanks Ghostrider, I did think about going to the Powerflo muff from SLP as you mentioned to make it easy but I also remembered (I think) a forum post a long time ago that I read on this site that recommended the "quiet" Magnaflow muffler to lessen the interior "HUMMM" or "resonance" in the 2000 RPM range. I unfortunately can't find the post now. I don't mind the system being quieter. Does anyone out there have experience with either the powerflo or the "quiet" (I'm guessing chambered) magnaflow? Borlas?

yeah if you want minimal interior resonance, Definitely stay away from flows and mac flow path's as Ghost mentioned above. I don't have much exhaust experience but i know for a fact that these have crazy interior res.

yeah the maggies will be much quiter (the regular ones, not packs) so you should notice a difference there...but yeah...going to have to fab that up, where as the power flows should fit right in with minimal adjustment...your just going to have to pick one, try and see...lol

but also, there is aerochambers...which I believe is like a 40 series knock off...but "supposidly" they don't throw the interior noise the flows do...so might be something to check into :dunno:
