Car is a 98 gt, stock headers, bbk o/r x pipe, 1 chamber flowmasters. Sounds great at idle to about 2200rpm, then it sounds like that of a 1973 school bus, aka: like crap. I like loud, and it is exactly that. But it is also extremely obnoxious. I cannot live with it. So, I am looking for ideas. I am 99% sold on swapping out the 1 chambers for either original 40's or the super 44's. Like I said, I do like loud, but the obnoxious gun shot tinny sound from 2200rpm to about 3400 rpm is ridiculous.....embarassing. It has to go. Suggestions?

After extensive wasted time watching u tube vids, I have decided to go with the MAC Flow Path Stainless mufflers. Though the Magnapacks are tempting.

what about keeping the flows and switching to an h pipe

I just pulled an H pipe off, gonna stick with the x setup for midpipes. The flows on there now sound raspy as can be at mid range rpm. Sounds friggin awesome at low rpm and high rpm, it makes my pp hard, but the nasty sound at midrange makes me clinch my jaw, squint my eyes, and I make a noise kinda like "ehhhhhhwwww."

I feel like a woman in the middle of a cycle changing my mind back and forth. I have now decided to go completely against my own will and go with the Hooker Aerochambers. I have been promised by a dude with a very good reputation that I will not be disappointed. After being sold on the MAC's I hate to backtrack, but the guy swears up and down Aerochamber is what I am looking for. It won't be done until this time a week from now, but you bet I will be back on here posting my opinion. Apparently anything with baffles (Flowmaster, MAC) is gonna drone real bad. I have to believe the guy for now until the Hookers go on. Go ahead, flame away!

My vote is for Bassani but the Aerochamber is a good choice as well.

For Sale: Two (2) Flowmaster, 2.5'' Delta Flow 1 chamber mufflers. :)

Aerochambers are on the car now. WOW! What a huge improvement. The Hookers have a very, very deep rumble to them. Very nice. I have always thought I would be a guy with nothing but Flowmasters on my vehicles. I do like Flows still. But I have kind of a hard on from the door panel vibrating, from the rumble of the deep tone of these Hookers. Still get a little drone at 2k rpm, but hardly at all. Nothing like before. I had heard of drone before I went to the o/r x pipe, then I lived it. It is a terrible, terrible thing. Kinda like fingernails on the chalkboard, but worse. The 1 chamber Flows sound great on my Bronco with no cats...... 5.0, h pipe. So I assumed it would be all good on the Mustang. NOPE!! But the Aerochambers are a perfect fit.

Well, I am embarased to post these, but here are 2 of the worst excuses for videos I have ever seen. Sorry guys, but here goes nothin'. Seems how the door chime is louder than the exhaust in the vids, it's safe to assume these vids don't give any justice. That and I suck.

Hey Fullsyz,

I may go the same way. I have an 02 convertible with a drone problem right around 2000 rpm range. I've got stock headers, SLP catted X, and SLP LM2's on it. Reasonably quiet when out of the throttle, good clean loud tone when I put the spurs to it, but MAN!!... that drone at part throttle and 2K revs is just like you said....nails on chalkboard. It's not even a question of volume but you cant hold a relaxed conversation with that humm in your ears you know?Lol
I may try the Aerochambers since they seemed to have cured your issues. Thanks!

(there's no way I'd go back to stock exhaust though...I dropped from 14.42 to 13.98 with just the exhaust change!)

The drone is next to gone with the Aerochambers. Not completely, but it's MUCH better. It almost sounds like a very mild rattle in the mufflers now. Not a bad sounding rattle. It's clearly the droning being soaked up the best the Aerochambers can do with it. They are definitely a quieter muffler, but they have a good sounding low rumble to them. Almost too quiet for me. But my father rode with me a couple days ago and he wanted to know what I had done to the car. He said he thought it was too loud. I took that as a compliment and told him he should have heard it with the 1 chamber flows.....no comparison in volume, those things were just plain loud. And he drives an '01 Bullitt with Flowmaster 40's, catted H pipe. And it sounds real nice, but not as loud as I like. Different strokes for different folks I guess. Could be our age difference too, 32 vs. 56. Anyway, I would be curious to hear the sound of the Aerochambers with catted mid pipes, so keep in touch.

Oh, and I forgot to mention, I am so curious how my car would sound with the MAC flowpaths. It's killing me. I just might have to spend another $200 to satisfy my curiosity. I'm guessing the drone will be right back in action, so I don't know what the hell I'm gonna do. I'm just never happy, always wanting it a little better.

Can anyone chime in about my desperate need to hear my car with the mac's? In particular, drone? 1998 GT, O/R X-pipe. I can't resist, I'm gonna have to try the macs next week.

I am very weak and impulsive. Just ordered a pair of stainless Flowpaths from Mac. Will post up next week when they get here.

Your resident muffler whore here. Got the Mac Flowpath's on this afternoon. Definitely louder than the Aerochamber. It's a good sounding muffler. Minimal drone. I will see about getting some video up. It's still not exactly the sound I am looking for upon initial start up. But sound is such a subjective thing. That and I am just not exactly sure what sound I want. Though I am sure I will know it when I hear it. The Mac's do sound good, so we'll see how I feel over the next few days. I have a bad feeling I'm gonna be trying the Magnapacks pretty soon.
