I have a 96 Mustang GT. My exhaust system is completly stock and I was wondering how it would sound with exhaust cut outs behind the headers.

i've ridden in a car with headers only (which would be very similar to cut outs) and it was ridiculously loud... almost too loud, you could barely even talk in the car... but i personally thought it sounded like crap, more like a crappy old truck than nething... but whatever floats your boat lol

What about putting them behind the midpipe?

I concur. It is waaay loud, but there is little to no tone. Not intimidating, just loud. No thanks. :nono:

I still don't think it would sound very good... everyone I've known that got cut outs took them out not long after b/c it always leaked or it didn't sound nething like they expected it too... i personally think any car without a muffler of some sort sounds like crap since its basically just loud, extremely raw, and zero tone/depth to it... but thats just me...

I've heard some very good sounding old cars with straight pipes, but then again, they have carburetors, points-type ignition and flat tappets so that changes things.

Man, I hate it when old threads are brought back from the dead.

have you ever tried upgrading your carburetors & accessories? I think that will be a very good option too.

But look at some of our MIA members!

Mikestang! Niehaus! CrownVic!

Hell - even Ghost hasn't been on in over 2 months!

Why has MX become a ghosttown? Seems like since the last reboot of the system we've lost lots of members :( I know it's winter, but com'on....

I know right. I saw ghost on PSN the other night, I'll send him a message to get him back on here.

mac cat back exhaust
(http://www.allexhaust.com/)
The larger pipes, low-restriction mufflers, and tuned resonators of a well-designed performance exhaust system can make a world of difference on your vehicle. We have truck and auto exhaust systems from Flowmaster exhaust, Gibson exhaust, and a host of other highly-respected exhaust system manufacturers, with applications ranging from Honda Civic exhaust systems to LS1 Camaro exhaust systems.

The Header-back (or header back) is the part of the exhaust system from the outlet of the header to the final vent to open air — everything from the header back. Header-back systems are generally produced as aftermarket performance systems for cars without turbochargers.
