anyone here ever swapped a 4.6 w/t-5 for 4.6 w/auto? Heres the deal, many of youmay know that I recently aquired a 99 gt vert with 5 speed, but have and 01 with auto that I am getting rid of. Well the thing is that I am going to swap the 4.6 outa the 01 with the 4.6 outa the 99 (miles mainly, plus I have babied the 01 for years now and know how good it is). But I want6 to swap the tranny outa the 01 as well. I am already sick of shifting all the time. Between the 2 cars I know I have all the parts, but does anyone know how much I have to change out? would I have to swap out the whole harness or just part? What about the computer or can that be reprogrammed with the diablosoprt? and if I have to swap the puter would I have to swap ignition locks as well for the keys to work? Or if anyone knows a site or forum were I can get this info that would be great as well. thanx for any help on this subject. As mentioned both 4.6's will stay with thier same trannies so I dont have to worry about anything between the tranny and engines.

well you have opened a can of worms heh
the 5sp pc will operate the automatic if its retuned with the files from the auto car.
If you take the pcm out of the auto and put in the 5sp it wont work, PATS is your enemy, custom tune can disable this
you will have to swap tranny harnesses and the harness that runs to the shifter. Also will have to swap pedals and maybe body harness to accept the clutch safety switch on the 5sp

About the PATS, I already thought of that but wouldnt switching out the ign. locks work, since the computers would be reading the correct key code? Or is there more stuff in the system that has to do with that? Thanx again for the info, doesnt seem like to bad a job to do (obviously time consuming and tedious though)

there is also a body control module which stores the vin of the car and handles some other stuff you'd have to switch all that to.

ok decided to keep the stick, now just have to deal with the idleing, die, rev shit and good to go, sounds like the iac but it has a new one on it, so If anyone has ideas why it woud keep about 1k idle til stop, then drop to dieing, then rev to 3k then drop to dieing, etc.. please throw out any ideas

so you kept everything the same just changed the motor right?
check for vaccuum leaks, check for loose connectors, especially around the iat/maf area.
