Has anyone installed their own gears? I wanna change 'em but buying gears with labor seems to be a little spendy and makes me think it must be a beeotch. burnout:

Get it installed by someone who does it daily.. Its not worth not setting it right and blowing out your rear end..

yea get them done by a pro. It not worth the risk by doing them yourself.

^^Agreed. Too much could go wrong from the slightest mistake.

you gotta have the right tools to do them correctly or you risk not getting everything set correctly thats why im having a local shop do my new rear-end setup

It shouldn't be that much. Gear + install kit + installation should $550 - $600. Do 3.73's if you're thinking about that supercharger.

k.....ill let the shop deal with it. I found one that would install for 450.00, w/o tax, so hope to have 'em in in a couple of months. well thanks for your opinion everyone but i do have another issue. Blownstang mentioned 3.73 instead of 4.10's. I always believed 4.10's would be good w/ a s/c. why 3.73? although the sc is goin to be awhile, why won't the 4.10 work with 'em? i would hate spending another $500 for another set. Thanks.

4.10 will work great, but you are going to fly through the gears and traction will be a little more difficult to achieve. Also, you'll hit 110mph like nothing, so in the quarter mile you will have to run a taller tire than a 26" because you will be running out of 4th gear. If 110-112 mph in 4th is fine for you, then definitely do the 4.10's. If you want to wined it out to 118-120 mph then get the 3.73's. With the 3.73's a 26" tire will be perfect for street and track use. Also, how long is a while? The only reason i'm going with 4.10's is because my car will probably not see a supercharger for 3 years. Then if i'm going to spend $5,000 for a supercharger, guages, installation, and tune, then what's another $500 to swap in 3.73's.

yeah thats a big factor that you have to add in there, is wheel and tire size...with my 18's the 4.10s are very managable....but when i had my 17's i know that the car felt a lot faster....
....i almost want my 17's back. ha
go with the 4.10s though, difference between the two is only like 200rpm

at low speeds the difference is about 200, but at high speeds the difference is 500 rpms, which is good for another 10mph.
