View Full Version : Why did SLP stop selling "Race Pipes"?

Looks like SLP stopped making their pipes that would go in place of the cats of their Catted X and H pipes. I have been looking for days and found out yesterday that they stopped making them due to emission standards which doesn't make sense.........they still sell their o/r pipes. :dunno:
Has anybody heard of this? I'm gonna call today to see what the real story is. I will post as soon as I find out.

Called them and what they said was that their "Race Pipes" were discontinued. You are gonna to need some straight pipes cut to size to put in place of the cats now. The tech on the phone advised me not to remove the cats for loss of power. Guess I'm leaving the cats on....for now, lol

thats pretty random lol... pretty random too that the cats will make you lose power... i guess having straight thru mufflers and no cats would flow too well?

I guess...no back pressure at all, he went on saying that my power loss would be great, a 20 horse loss in power. Yeah it would sound great if they were removed but I like the power more, lol

The power loss is not that much...I noticed very little difference when I took mine out. There is some loss but not a lot. If you have a blower or have done a lot of work to allow more airflow in then it shouldn't hurt you. If so then why do so many drag racers run straights out of the headers? The more air you put in the more air that needs to come out.

true but im pretty sure you need some kind of back pressure

see if you can get the race pipes from Bassani, theyre the same.

I think modular motors need some back pressure for horse and torque. I also have seen those cars but they were full race and far from streetable. If there was a dyno graph that we could see about how much of a loss that would be great, not just from feel. The tech on the phone said it would be around a 20 loss in power to much for me...I looked on the Bassani site and also nothing. In the future I decide to do this I will just get some exhaust pipe and do what is needed.

If I get a chance to make some "pipes" I will take them to my tune next month. I will ask and see if they would let me do a comparrision.

if i keep the car and fix it up then i will get it dynoed with both straights and with the cats so i can switch back and forth on the programmer. that probably won't be til next summer but i will try to remember to post both dyno sheets.

I dont understand why all you guys want OR pipes, you lose power, have more exhaust fumes in the car. I guess its to make the exhaust louder, just not worth it

thats why i did it...sound alone
You lose some power and throttle response in the low end due to decreasing the back-pressure, but there is no denying that there is a power increase above 4000 rpm. But yeah, they are pretty stinky for a daily driver.
